Software download and rewriting procedure

Important Notices
- This Developer Preview version software is intended for application development, not for daily use.
- Since this Developer Preview software is under development and not the final version of Android 11, the function may not work as expected.
- If you rewrite your device, all personal content will be lost and you will not be able to use backup or restore as long as you are running Developer Preview software.
- If you rewrite your device, the following functions cannot be used.
  • - Fingerprint sensor (You can use it again by re-registering your fingerprint after writing it back to the regular software.)
  • - Wireless display (miracast) function (can be used again after writing back to the regular software)
  • - O-saifu Keitai (Cannot be used including payment. Note that O-saifu Keitai data will not be deleted even after rewriting, so you can use it again after writing it back to the official software.)
- For inquiries regarding the Android 11 Developer Preview Program, please be sure to Send Feedback to Sharp Corporation. (Please refrain from contacting retailers, application vendors, service vendors)
- For Factory Reset Protection, we strongly recommend that you delete your Google account before rewriting your device.
- Device repair after rewriting the device software will be charged even within the warranty period.

Device rewriting environment

Please prepare the following equipment and environment in advance.

  • Smartphone device (AQUOS zero2 SH-M13)
    • * Update to the latest software.
  • PC to use for rewriting (either Windows, Mac or Linux)
  • USB cable that can communicate with the device
  • Internet environment
    • * Connect the smartphone and the PC used for rewriting to the Internet.

Android 11 Developer Preview Program for AQUOS zero2 Software License Agreement

This license agreement (hereinafter referred to as the "Agreement") is for Google LLC's next Android OS 11, which Sharp Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “Company") is a customer (corporate or individual). "Join Developer Preview Program" and "Android 11 Developer Preview Program for AQUOS" used for Android 11 Developer Preview Program for AQUOS zero2 (hereinafter referred to collectively as "this software") The conditions for granting the right to use. If you select [Accept], you agree to all of this Agreement. If you do not agree, you cannot use this software.

1. Communication costs, etc.
You are responsible for any expenses required for internet communication, such as internet connection service provider fees and communication charges for using this software.

2. Copyright
(1) Intellectual property rights such as copyrights related to this software belong to us or our licensors, and this software is protected by Japanese copyright law and other related laws.
(2) When the software and related materials such as manuals and instruction manuals (hereinafter referred to as "related materials") are provided to the customer, their copyrights belong to us or our licensors, These related materials are protected by Japanese copyright law and other related laws. You may not reproduce these related materials.

3. Customer Responsibility
(1) The use of this Software is at your own risk.
(2) If you cause damage to a third party or have a dispute with a third party while using the Software, you shall settle the dispute at your own expense and responsibility, unless the Company is attributable to you.
(3) If you cause any damage to the Company in connection with your use of this Software, you will You shall be compensated for such damage.
(4) If you are a minor, you shall use this Software only with the consent of a legal representative such as a person with parental authority, and the legal representative who has consented shall be jointly and severally liable for your obligations under this Article.

4. Grant of rights
(1) The customer acquires the non-exclusive right to use this Software in Japan free of charge in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.
(2) You may duplicate this Software in whole or in part for the purpose of backing up this Software or using it on your own PC.
(3) Company can improve or change this Software or related materials at any time without notice.

5. Quality of this Software
Company provide this Software on the premise that this Software is under development and is not the final version, and that it may include bugs and defects.

6. Restrictions
Customer shall not take any of the following actions:
(1) Violation of this Agreement.
(2) Acts that are against or may violate laws or public order and morals.
(3) Acts that cause or may damage us or a third party.
(4) Acts that interfere with or may interfere with the operation of this Software or our Company.
(5) Acts that damage or may damage the trust of our Company or a third party.
(6) Reverse engineering, decompilation or disassembly of this Software.
(7) Except as expressly permitted in this Agreement, using this Software or copying or modifying all or part of it.
(8) The act of removing the copyright notice and other right notices attached to this Software and related materials. If you copy this Software based on (7) above, you must also copy the copyright notice and other right notices attached to this Software.
(9) License, rent or lease this Software to a third party.
(10) Falsification of information provided through this Software.
(11) Acts that infringe or may infringe copyrights or other intellectual property rights of our Company or a third party.
(12) Acts similar to the above items.
(13) Other acts that our Company deems inappropriate.

7. Disclosure of support information
Regarding this Software, Company will disclose support information to the customer on the web etc. based on our judgment, but we will not provide any other support. Therefore, if a problem occurs with this Software, it shall be resolved at your own risk and expense.

8. Scope of responsibility
(1) Company will not be responsible for your use of this Software and the results of your use.
(2) Company do not guarantee that the functions provided by this Software will operate normally, will operate normally in the future, and will always be available. In addition, even if the customer suffers damage due to the fact that this Software does not operate normally or this Software cannot be used, Company are not responsible for such damage.
(3) Notwithstanding the other provisions of this Agreement, if this Agreement falls under the consumer contract stipulated in the Consumer Contract Law, and if the customer suffers damages due to default of our debt or our negligence, Company shall only be liable for damages within the scope of damages that may normally occur (Company are not responsible for lost profits or indirect damages). However, this does not apply when the damage is caused by the Company's intention or gross negligence.

9. Repair for a fee
By using this Software, you agree that repairing a device that participates in the Android 11 Developer Preview Program will be a paid repair even within the warranty period.

10. Guarantee regarding export control law
This Software is subject to United States export control laws, including U.S. Export Administration Regulations, and may be subject to export/import controls in other countries. You agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations and to obtain the relevant licenses when exporting, re-exporting or importing this Software. Download this Software in Cuba, Iran, the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Sudan, Syria, or other countries or nationals/residents of which the United States has restrictions on exports, or download it to those countries or their nationals/residents. Cannot be exported or re-exported to. In addition, this Software may not be exported or re-exported to anyone who is on the export prohibition list published by the government of Japan, the United States, or other countries.

11. Term of contract
This Agreement becomes effective when you use this Software or when you select the [Accept] button at the bottom of this screen, and it is valid until the end of this Agreement according to 12. below.

12. Termination of Agreement
(1) If the customer violates any of the terms of this Agreement, Company can terminate this Agreement immediately without giving any notice or notification to the customer.
(2) In the case of (1) above, Company can claim the damage caused by you.
(3) Upon termination of this Agreement, the customer shall immediately destroy this Software and all copies thereof.

13. Jurisdiction and applicable law
Regarding the establishment, effectivity, performance and interpretation of this Agreement, Japanese law shall apply, and disputes arising from this Agreement shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Japan.

Rewriting procedure

  • Operate the smartphone device, select “Settings” -> “About phone” and tap the “Build number” 7 times.
    This makes the “Developer options” available in “System”. 
  • Navigate your smartphone device and select “Settings” -> “System” -> “Developer options” to enable OEM unlock.
    If the OEM unlock is grayed out and cannot be selected, insert the SIM, connect to Wi-Fi, etc., and then connect with the network. 
  • On your smartphone device, download the Join Developer Preview Program app from here and install it on the device to be rewritten.
    At that time, you need to enable “Install unknown app”.
    The following is an example of downloading the Join Developer Preview Program application from the Chrome browser.
  • Launch the installed Join Developer Preview Program app, check the “Terms of Service / Privacy Policy”, and then tap the "Register" button.
  • Wait a while and the software update will be delivered. Install it.
    If your smartphone device has not been updated to the latest software, please update to the latest software first.
    To see if you have updated to the latest software, go to “Settings” -> “System” -> System update”.
    It may take several days before the update is delivered.
  • After installing the software update, the screen of the smartphone device will be displayed as the rewrite screen (Fastboot screen).
    In this state, connect the device to the smartphone device and rewrite PC with a USB cable. 
  • Execute the following command from the terminal software of the rewriting PC to unlock the bootloader of the device.
    When the command is executed, a confirmation screen will be displayed. Unlock according to the display.
    When unlock is executed, the smartphone device will be initialized.

  • When the initialization of the smartphone device is over, the screen of the device will be redisplayed (Fastboot screen) again, so execute “flash_android11” ​​included in Android 11 Developer Preview Program for AQUOS on the rewriting PC.
    Please use the following files according to the rewriting PC.
    For Windows :
    flash_android11.bat
    For Mac/Linux :
    flash_android11.sh
    After running “flash_android11”, the smartphone device will restart. When the restart is completed, rewriting to Android 11 Developer Preview is completed.

Update to latest version procedure

  • Enable “USB debugging” from the “Developer options” of the smartphone device to update.
  • Connect your smartphone device to the rewriting PC with a USB cable.
  • Execute “update_beta” included in Android 11 Developer Preview Program for AQUOS.
    Please use the following files according to the rewriting PC.
    For Windows :
    update_beta.bat
    For Mac/Linux :
    update_beta.sh

Writeback procedure

  • Enable “USB debugging” from the “Developer options” of the smartphone device to write back.
  • Connect your smartphone device to the rewriting PC with a USB cable.
  • Execute “revert_android10” included in Android 11 Developer Preview Program for AQUOS.
    Please use the following files according to the rewriting PC.
    For Windows :
    revert_android10.bat
    For Mac/Linux :
    revert_android10.sh
    When you execute “revert_android10”, the bootloader lock confirmation screen of the device will be displayed. Please lock according to the display.
    When lock is executed, the device is initialized and the software is written back.
  • On your smartphone device, download the Join Developer Preview Program app from here and install it on the device you wrote back.
    At that time, you need to enable “Install unknown app”.
  • Launch the installed Join Developer Preview Program app, check the “Terms of Service / Privacy Policy”, and then tap the “Not register" button.
